• TYPES OF OLIVE OIL

Here we are going through all the types of consumable olive oil again to have a closer look at their labels:

Types of olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil

As an extra virgin olive oil it belongs with all its healthy properties to the olive oils of a high quality. Aroma and taste are irreproachable and it mustn’t ever exceed the following analytical parameters. Acidity: equal or less than 0.80
It can be bottled directly for the consumption.

Virgin olive oil

As an olive oil of the medium quality it has all the good possible properties, which a virgin olive oil can have, but it could have some emerging or smaller defects related to its aroma and it mustn’t exceed the following analytical parameters. Acidity: equal or less than 2.00
It can be bottled directly for the consumption.

Olive oil

Here we talk about an olive oil, which is a mixture of a refined olive oil and a virgin olive oil with a different mixing ratio. A usual proportion is 80% of refined olive oil and 20% of virgin olive oil. Acidity: equal or less than 1.00
It can be bottled for the consumption.

Lampante olive oil

It needs to be refined before consumption. Acidity higher than 2.00
It cannot be bottled directly for consumption.

Refined olive oil

It is made from lampante olive oil through chemical and thermic process to control the acidity, which is finally equal to 0.30
It cannot be bottled directly for consumption.
